My friend Kim Kent and I are hosting a zines popup at her shop Drink Books on Saturday. Come by for zines from us, Kelly Froh, Living Room Press, Zine Hug, Neoglyphic Media, Common Area Maintenance and other local zine pals. (Here’s an insta post if you want to follow them and/or spread the word!)
From 1-4pm on Saturday May 14th — a.k.a. this weekend — there will be special wine pours, and I'll bring extra zine/risograph print stuff !
If you can't make it Saturday, don't fret: the zines are in the shop through May 22nd. Drink Books is open Wednesday-Sundays 1-7pm and is at 59th and Phinney. It’s on bus line 5, next to the pie shop, across from the zoo.
We'll have a bunch of new zines — here are some studio process pictures as we’ve been making them the last few weeks:
Kim's launching Drink Books: A year in books and wine with BOOK CRU. A luxurious and beautiful 48-pages of mini-essays, tasting notes, and micro-biographies:
A list of books, wines, and moods; two years of what I consumed (and loved). It tracks the seasons, my often bizarre or fickle tastes, complaints, and pleasures— we are what we consume.
Perhaps, what we consume consumes us too.
I interviewed two musician friends, Luke Wolcott and Shoshanna Regatta, and got all their tips about Getting Started with Making Electronic Music. Turns out that Ableton Live is really cool. Join me in being obsessed with Luke’s album, Mineral Wool, produced by Shoshanna.
If you like reading recommendations, I'm collaborating with Elizabeth Case to pull together a whole zine of Climate Emergency Reading Recs. It’s huge list with over 100 books we've read and recommend, from climate science to science fiction.
Also, we've made fresh reprints of Bike Rambles around Seattle and Sensitive. (Climate + Sensitive covers on the same sheet, with the fluorescent pink + yellow risograph ink layers shown above, via Spectrolite of course.) And *if all goes well* we should have copies the print broadside experimental publication there, pick one up free with zine/wine/book purchases.
For non Seattle people, we’ll put these zines up online after the weekend.
Sunday is BOOKLUCK!
Come join us in the park for a small press + bookmaker picnic potluck this Sunday May 15th, 3:30-7:30pm. The morning is looking rainy but it’s supposed to clear up by the afternoon, let’s all cross our fingers (but maybe bring warm/waterproof layers too). We’ve reserved the picnic shelter and will bring extra tents, too.
Bookluck has a zine sharing table where you can put your zines out to give away for free, or for trading with other people! If you have extra copies, or “seconds” books/zines that aren’t in quite perfect shape, or just things you’re excited about—bring them along! We’ll bring copies of our new zines at the Bookluck to share/trade!
Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/bookluck so we can get headcount for supplies and logistics. Hope to see you there — with a week like these last few I’m really wanting to talk to some friends.
— Amelia
P.S.—Seattle friends, if you’re looking for a local/regional abortion access fund, here’s the one I’ve been donating to the last few years: nwaafund.org And more widely, I support the Yellowhammer Fund doing reproductive justice work in Alabama and other southern states.
