We’re in Norway for the Bergen Art Book Fair this week, and we’re co-organizing a Climate Emergency Reading Room as part of the fair programming. In addition to browsing books, visitors may fill out cards to add to the community altar, and you’re invited to participate:
Share your wishes for our collective future.
Del dine håp og ønsker for vår felles fremtid.
If you reply to this newsletter, I’ll transcribe your wishes onto a card to be included in the reading room & altar this weekend. Just a word, a few words, a sentence or two is good. The cards are palm-sized, like this:
The Climate Emergency Reading Room is a roving physical and digital archive of climate- and earth-related zines, artist publications, books, and related materials. This edition at Bergen Art Book Fair is April 3-6, and is co-curated by the artist and curator Jessica Williams. Attendees are invited to bring books, writing, or other objects to add to the community altar, as a symbol of our values, gratitude to each other and our planet, and wishes for our collective future.
Adam and I also hosting two workshops about Publishing with Google Docs & Spectrolite, one a demo for all levels, and part 2 is smaller group workshop for hands-on help from us with working on your own project to turn it into a book.
So please say hello to us if you’ll be in Bergen this weekend, and everyone — you’re invited to write back if you’d like: Share your wishes for our collective future.

P.S. — This edition is supported by Vestland fylkeskommune and The Royal Norwegian Embassy of New York, and organized by Bergen Art Book Fair and Pamflett. Thank you to our ongoing climate collaborators Alex Barsky and Elizabeth Case. Here’s a look at the first reading room we installed at Seattle Art Book Fair in 2024.
P.P.S. — Do you have a shelf of natural wonders or an altar going at your home/workspace? I love how it creates space for noticing the world and looking deeper at the detail, and also it’s just so nice to make little arrangements.
P.P.P.S. — I love making little bookmarks as free takeaways… these are the ones for the reading room visitors this weekend.
